The Leap Quote Analysis

I dissagree with Hemingway's statement that defines courage as "Grace under pressure" In the story "The Leap" It says "My mother onces said that I'd be amazed at how many things a person could do during the act of falling"( ). With this quote, being courageous would to be able to fall on your own, but to be grace under pressure you would think a lot while falling. Also in The Leap It says "I was not suprised to see her, she was smiling, she was so matter-of-fact, she tapped on the window, I remember how she did it too, it was the friendliest tap."( ). In this quote to be courageous you would go save your daughter but to be grace under pressure you would be calm while saving her. Also in the story it says "As he swept past on the wrong side,

Attached are the two quotes I received from Tom’s Auto Body and Danser. I also tried to go to Bates Collision (thats where I got my jeep fixed, they were really good) but they were booked up for today. I can call and schedule an appointment with them as well if you want. Both shops confirmed that all the damage to the car is cosmetic, no damage was done to the frame of the card just the bumper. Danzer confirmed that the car is drivable with no worries, the only thing not working is obviously the passenger side backup light.…

Some people may say no, some may say yes. To me, I see courage as something everyone has the potential to have. You don’t need to be a superhero to demonstrate courage. Courage is the strength you have when you’re faced with pain, danger, and grief. In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Holocaust, and The Merchant of Venice, some events took place where people stepped up and were courageous.…

I believe that the characters that best exemplify courage are Jem, Scout, Dill, and Atticus. The reason i believe that they exemplify courage is because they have all shown a bit of courage throughout the book. For example, Jem and Dill were able to walk up to The Radleys’ house even though they were scared. Another example, Scout was willing to talk to Boo Radley even though she thought he was dangerous. And finally, Atticus showed courage by shooting Tim Johnson.…

Courage can be defined in a variety of ways; it all depends on what an individual perceives as courageous, and the different aspects of courage they find most important. In the short story “On the Rainy River” Tim O’Brien focuses on the action side of courage. Action meaning the big and small tasks in a person’s life that determine their courageousness. The actions an individual takes when caught in a difficult situation is what defines them as brave. Published in 1960, To Kill A Mockingbird allowed Harper Lee to demonstrate the prejudice against negroes by using Atticus Finch, a white lawyer, who bravely defended Tom Roberson, a negro, and his false accusation for rape of a white woman. Courage is said to be a hero’s trait, the key to success. Cowardice is the antagonist, nobody likes it, nobody wishes to be it. Cowardice makes a meager mouse run your blood cold. Courage is the ability to do things that are more challenging and difficult than the ordinary endeavours. Out of the this, the greatest courage is risking something of value to oneself to perform a selfless action. Because life is the most valuable possession to a human being, risking that to save another person is the portrayal of true heroism. A perfect example of this is Harriet Tubman who risked her lives many times to rescue over 300 slaves. Courage is the ability to overcome the unknown, fear and doubt and continue striving for one’s goals and purposes despite external challenges they may face.…

Being courageous deals more with the emotional side of dealing with a problem. Courage is stepping out of the zone you are comfortable with and trying new things. Bravery is knowing what you are stepping into, but willing to face that fear. For example, a new sky-diver would have bravery, but a person asking someone out for a date is courage. Bravery is not a description of someone’s character, but rather a description of the actions they have committed.…
