Pippin, known as one of the most prosperous Broadway shows of all time, has an underlying theme missed by many. On the surface, the plot follows a young actor playing the role of Pippin who ends up re-writing the narrative to fit his journey; however, the deeper meaning lies with the Leading Player. The Leading Player’s implied goal is to make sure each production of Pippin runs smoothly. She acts as a puppeteer and makes sure everything is up to her standards. When this performance starts to fall apart, she pulls the strings to keep herself in power over Pippin.
