I also pressed the team to stay late on Thursday before the presentation and to practice a few times. I think we benefited the most from this recommendation as it became clear that the group leader should not be the person presenting all of the slides. There were some slides that specific team members were most knowledgeable about and therefore we agreed as a team to divide the presentation responsibilities up accordingly. Our presentation was very well received by the SLT members and they praised and commended our efforts. The slide-deck was both effective in communicating our ideas and prompted further discussion of each of our recommendations. I will admit the transition into a managerial position has been a struggle at times. I initially battled my desire to just do things myself as I knew it would take me half the time to perform the task as it would for the contractor to. This is something my manager pointed out to me during one of our 1-on-1 meetings. He gave me specific instances where I performed a task myself, that in his opinion, I should have been delegating to the contractor. When I explained to him that I performed these tasks because I knew I could do them faster, he stated that while that might be the case, I have more important things to be focusing on and my time is better spent on those. His feedback has really helped me improve which tasks I keep for myself and which I delegate. I have also recently asked him for feedback on how he felt I was performing in this managerial position. His response was that he was extremely satisfied with the work our contractor was producing and that was a direct reflection on my ability as a
