I went with this concept not only because it is a good one, but I believe that if you want to become great at something, no matter what it is, you can’t be afraid to approach big moments when they arise. One thing that stood out to me from “The Leadership Challenge” is the first sentence in this section of the book, which says “when people recall their personal-best leadership experiences, they always think about some kind of challenge” (Pg. 159). I know from personal experience that these are the moments that make us better no matter what the outcome because it is about gaining that experience and knowledge from each situation. The book has taught me that these moments are important, but they aren’t always easy, and the reason so is because they will involve change. This second concept involves setting the example and as discussed earlier when you lack passion it shows, but when you have passion your feelings come to the surface and your actions speak for themselves, and this can be contagious. But if I can’t lead through my actions and setting the example how can I expect to strengthen others. I am a big believer that you have to be willing to work and better yourself before you can actually help others. If you possess these three concepts it will help with how you “envision your future”, without them the future isn’t as important because you have no passion, motivation and could care less for what you are doing. Lastly, I find that all four of these concepts can lead me to gaining the mentality and ability to “seize the initiative”.
