I am born and raised in Southern California. I know the community well and feel like, as a police officer I would be protecting a home that I know and care for deeply. As a member of an ethnic minority I have always been keenly aware that interactions with the police are fraught with fear and tension, and the distrust of law enforcement has built up in my own ethnic community in recent years. However, I strongly desire to bridge that gap. As a Hispanic-American woman, I am motivated to build trust in the law enforcement authority within my community and bring greater cohesion in the overall society.

I am increasingly convinced that social media issues for police officers is something to engage with more directly, especially on patrol issues and collecting evidence. Police officers are moving with the rest of the world in many ways, and they will use various social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other sites such as Tumblr to connect with other officers, with other departments, and of course with the public. Internet safety, security and issues of jurisdiction and duty are all developing areas of law and especially are relevant in times where the crimes that are being committed are increasingly planned or even carried out online.
