How much are you willing to give the person you love ? Probably everything you have , love blind most people and also Gasby in the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Gatsby gives up his goal for the women he loves. Gatsby went to the WW1 and come back sees his ex-girlfriend is already married, so he tries to earn lot of money and wanted to earn her back. He knows you need to have money and power to win the girl back, at the end he gives up his job to stay with the women he love. On the other hand In The Last Words On Earth by NICOLE KRAUSS. Leo came back hiding from the WW2 and went to america to find a living and eventually went to see his lover. When he saw her she was married to another man and said no when he ask her to leave with him. …show more content…
He loves her personality, that is why he endure his love in order to show her his love. As Leo recalls, “ when it was finished, I ran all the way to her house. I leaned against a wall and watched her face as she read it. It got dark outside, but she kept reading. Hours went by. I slid to the floor. When she finished, she looked up. At first she didn’t speak. Then she said that perhaps I shouldn’t make up everything, because that made it hard to believe anything.”(4) That he like that alma gives her the opinion about the book. She is the only one that read his book and the reason why john wrote the book, it is all for alma and he cares about her opinion. She read the book all day and give Leo respect and honor him for writing the book. Leo also love her cause of her kindness. As Leo recalls, “they made up a thousand games. They collect the world in small handfuls, and they were never unfair to each other, not once.”(4) The Author use they which shows how close these twos are together. They are always together and have a deep bond of friendship. They are never mean to each other and always having the fun. The love slowly grow gradually, not like gatsby. Leo and Alma made one thousand game together, this also shows they stay together for a long time to make up these games.As Leo recalls”When they were ten, he asked her to marry him. Leo understand and respect Alma’s choice, they are not kids anymore, they are now adults and have other things to take care of. Like now Alma have a family to take care off and cannot leave them behind. As Leo recalls, “‘Come with me.’ The sound of children shouting rose from the street below. She squeezed her eyes shut. ‘Come with me,’ he said, holding out his hand. Tears rolled down her face. Alma shook her head. ‘I can’t,’ Leo wants alma to be on his side, he already lost her for five years and he doesn't want her to leave him anymore. He asked her twice to come with him and this explain how eager he needs alma. Alma is crying, she wants to go with him too, but she cannot left the child behind. Breaking up is not a simple dession, especially for those who stay long together and truly understand each others. She understand that in the situation now. She cannot leave with Leo. Leo understand that too, that alma have a family already and cannot go with him. In the end, it is still his child and he cannot doesn’t care about his child. He left without saying anything, because he know it is hard to say goodbye and he understand the situation clearly. He wants the best for his son, so he is not going to let his selfishness take over the good life for his son.
