The Last Supper

(((((Paradies in art)))))

The Last Supper tells the story of when Jesus announced his betrayal to the 12 apostles. There are numerous variations of this famous biblical story which date back to the early Christian period. By the 14th and 15th century ‘The Last Supper’ became a popular subject amongst Renaissance painters and continued to be so throughout the years. Today many artists continue to reproduce the painting in their own interpretive way and in recent years it has remained current through pop culture by becoming a popular theme for which to create parodies.

One of the more classical depictions is by Italian painter Leonardo da Vinci. During the High Renaissance he produced a Last Supper(1495-98) which today is considered one of the worlds most famous artworks. (reference to a book?) This was an experimental fresco using tempora and oil. It was painted directly onto the wall of the refectory in the church of Santa

He produced a set of 13 coloured screen prints on paper. Each print reflects pharmaceutical packaging with the names of common British foods replacing that of the medicines. Through the artwork Hirst combines religion and science. It was important to him that each print be shown together so that it mirrors the biblical story of ‘The Last Supper’.

Da Vinci’s masterpiece later became a monumental setting for advertising when Annie Leibovitz an american photographer created what was to become a popular idea for 21st century tv promotional shots. In 1999 shortly after the debut of American gangster drama ‘The Sopranos’ created by David Chase, Leibovitz shot the entire cast in New York in a Last Supper setting. The show had an immediately positive response although Leibovitz describes the actors as “a little taken aback by all the attention they were

In addition, these two pieces of art show a transitional phase in the most extreme ways. Both the movie and the painting show something in the process of changing or moving on from one thing to another. In the Last Supper, it shows Jesus before he moves on to make the ultimate sacrifice; the mood shows it. In the Last…

The True Nature of Man Eric Burdon once stated “Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It's a constant struggle as to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other.” Burdon’s statement about human nature explains that there is a perpetual battle between good and evil within all of us and it is up to one’s self to choose what action takes over us. Many people have their own opinions of how human nature should be defined, some think we are all naturally flawed and are damned to hell and others believe we are naturally good and can be perfected.…

As main stream denominations continue to shrink and modern day evangelicalism has morphed into something more politically and conservatively centered, I found “Rescuing Jesus; How People of Color, Women and Queer Christians are Reclaiming Evangelism”, by Deborah Jian Lee, enlightening, profound and hopeful as it centers on new, out of the box ways in which people generally pushed into the margins, are redefining their evangelical Christianity. “Evangelicalism is anything but a monolith; it is a vastly diverse landscape”. Meaning, not all evangelicals are the same and perhaps what we think of them or how we envision them is way off the mark.…

Another artist who used this technique was Perugino. This is shown on his fresco Christ Giving the Key to St. Peter which shows a horizontal line with the vanishing point being in the center of the fresco which also create the illusion of three-dimensional. Many of the paintings used stories from the bible and created amazing paintings like The Last Supper by Andrea del Castagno which was a fresco that shows Jesus and the disciples during the last…

It is popularly said that movies reflect life. Directors and writers of movie production usually aim to send some form of message to their audience that may be adhere to the political, social, economic, or moral aspects of modern life. Some of these movies directly refer to modern events and entangle them into the plot of the movie. This event or policy usually directly affects the main character. This is reflected in the movie Saw VI, directed by Kevin Greutert in 2009.…

Christ is surrounded by his apostles while consoling them, preaching to them and listening to them. While looking at the picture one can associate the deep meaning of what is going on here and the appreciation that Christ is spending his last moments with his apostles. ORIGINAL PURPOSE: In Durer’s “The Last Supper”, he shows up his hint toward Protestantism during the beginning of the reformation, and this depiction of the last supper has a slightly different interpretation then the original one. Durer wants to show viewer the humanistic part of the Last supper hence the bare feet of some of the apostles and Christ.…

Despite our personal views, paintings, sculptures, places, and churches reflect worldview and civic identity. In the “Last Supper,” Leonardo shows monumental simplicity (Bondanella and Musa 48). His composition is masterful. He strikes the contrast of the disciples’ attitudes as counter posed to that of Christ. Instead of choosing the portrayal of Judas as customary in the iconographic tradition, he portrayed the moment of highest tension in the New Testament as in the bible, “One of you that eat with me will betray me."…

As Catholics, Mass is the source and most important sacrament of our faith. Pope Francis stated back in 2014 that “every authentic journey of faith, communion and witness springs from this sacrament of love”. Claiming that the Mass is “so boring” or that “I just don’t get anything out of Mass” indicates the pure ignorance of that person. Dr. Scott Hahn’s book The Lamb’s Supper manifests that the Mass is truly heaven on earth by recognizing that to comprehend Mass we must know more. Dr. Scott Hahn breaks this down to the very basics of earthly Mass by relating it back to the Book of Revelation- something that I personally was unaware of before reading The Lamb’s Supper.…

Therefore, for people who know the prophecies, know that he is the Son of God. An iconic image that is very well known is “The last supper” an image of Jesus and his disciples having their last supper before Jesus was crucified on the cross. Many people in the christian faith, love the painting of that last supper because it was a touching moment and it shows how humble Jesus was when He knew He was going to be betrayed by one of his disciples, therefore, leading to crucifixion. The last supper had more of a significance to it, it was also known as the passover meal, Jesus’ command to remember what He was about to do on behalf of all mankind: shed His blood on the cross thereby paying the debt of our sins (Luke 22:19). Therefore using the passover to have a new covenant, there was two symbols associated with the passover and to remind them about the sacrifice.…
