Sometimes you have a second to decide on an action that might save your life or kill you. Your actions might be different if you are in the middle of the Atlantic compared to if you're on a sandy beach in the Maldives. Katherine Patterson shows this by stating “Rabies was it! Somehow he would have to make Brog bite him (Patterson 59)”. This shows that because he was in a cage, he had to have a valid reason to be able to get out of the cage so he could escape with Brog. This is important because if they were in a different setting such as if they were in a room with an unlocked door, they could just quietly sneak out in the middle of the night instead of having to trick the scientists. This is also true in the story “Dark they were, and Golden-Eyed” by Ray Bradbury. In the story “Dark they were and Golden-Eyed” the author states “We’ll go back to town maybe next year, or the year after, or the year after that (Bradbury 196)”. This shows that because they relocated to the villas, Mr. Bittering and his family realized that they were changing due to their location. However, they had previously automatically assumed that any change was for worse not better, the relocation of Mr. Bittering and his family helped them realize that the change was for the better and that they should accept change.
