Death, it 's a topic we all want to avoid but it 's the inevitable end for every single one of us. For most, death is a mystery, but what if all that changed today.What if you were told how it will happen, an estimate of how much life you have left to live. Over time your body will slowly begin to turn against itself, without treatment it will be painful, and there 's a chance you might slowly lose yourself, your memories. Thankfully, with today 's technology there are several treatments to help somewhat ease the pain. Depending on the illness the help of narcotics possibly even several extensive surgeries may reduce pain, but with every option there are side effects and possible recovery time. We have the right to believe in whatever we choose, to be anything we desire and are willing to work for, and for the most part live our lives the way we see fit for our own individual needs. The downside to America is the fact that we are sometimes a very religiously ethical based country, and certain moral views of one assembly can decide the fate for us as a whole. Such as the idea that suicide even in a medically induced manner is completely immoral. This is the reason for so much controversy over legal euthanasia more commonly known as the Death with Dignity Act. According to the act, “A terminally-ill but mentally competent patient has the right to voluntarily accelerate their own death with self-administered prescription medication. One of the arguments to stop euthanasia is that it goes against the Hippocratic Oath that every doctor takes “I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures which are required[...]warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon 's knife or the chemist 's drug”, so forcing a patient to continue to suffer falls under this how exactly? These diseases can potentially strip you of the feeling of being human all together. Ripping through your body with an unbearable amount of pain, losing physical or mental capacity forcing you into a dependency on those you love, and even sending you into a comatose state until your body finally releases you. This makes an already terrible situation even more stressful for all those involved. A moment where we should be focussed on the all the good memories, saying goodbye, and being relieved that they no longer need to suffer. We are instead faced with it head on watching them slowly deteriorate before our eyes, struggling everyday to go to work because the pile of hospital bills keeps getting bigger.
