I did not physically go to a museum for this assignment, but I did do the virtual tour of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. When I started the virtual tour of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the Rotunda room is where I first experienced. Seeing only the giant elephant in this room, I moved onto the Mammal Hall. Seeing all of mammals from around the world was very captivating and informative. Of course I know enough about mammals to know which country some of them conquer and roam, but seeing them all together made me realize how many interesting creatures there are in this beautiful world. My favorite exhibit, and probably many others’ favorite, is the Tyrannosaurus Rex exhibit. On the display of the tyrannosaurus rex it says, “What Do Fossils Reveal about Tyrannosaurus?” The interesting facts displayed under that are some very interesting and factual things about the tyrannosaurus rex. Including that this tyrannosaurus rex lived anywhere from 66-68 million years ago, and that this creature ate meat and bones. Length wise, this creature was about 40 feet long and weighed up to 15, 500 pounds. Another thing displayed on this exhibit is a section on why this dinosaur’s arms were so short and small. It states that scientists still do not know why the tyrannosaurus’ arms are so small in comparison to the rest of its body. Those are just some interesting facts and knowledge to know about this Tyrannosaurus Rex exhibit, but the reason that I picked this specific exhibit is due to my fascination of dinosaurs. These giant creatures roamed the Earth millions and millions of years ago, and it is fascinating to learn about each of these creatures and visualize what things were like for them back in their time. The tyrannosaurus rex was easily at the top of the food chain, and learning about these fierce killers was something that I wanted to do. Watching the Jurassic Park movies growing up is another reason on why I became interested in learning about dinosaurs, because seeing what they actually looked like was fascinating.
