Billy, the main character, was very cheap and stayed in the hotel because it was only “five and sixpence a night.” The idea of Billy being cheap was barely recognizable in the movie. In the text this was an important feature because it was a key part of why he ignores his conscience. He sees that the lady is odd, but stays at the hotel because it is cheap.…

When the Landlady mentions that she is very particular about her guests, it seems very odd. In the business world, especially hotels, having customers is a very important part of making money. If the Landlady is selective with her customers, that would seem impractical to most people. Because of these key pieces of evidence, the conclusion that seems most likely is that the Landlady has some sort of psychic ability, and that she has used it on Billy…

Gender-neutral housing provides students with the option to live with each other regardless of their gender and sexual orientation. Some colleges across the nation have recently taken the initiative to allow gender-neutral housing on their campuses in order to make LGBTQ students feel comfortable. Hendrix College, while promoting its policies for a diverse community, would be among these schools to allow the housing plan with the discussion about the Miller Creative Quad dorms. However, I consider that the dorms should not provide gender-neutral housing because some students might become uncomfortable with the risks of the housing arrangement. In “The Landlady”, Billy Weaver is lured into a seemingly normal bed and breakfast by an old lady who, despite her gentle and unthreatening appearance, wants to kill him. It is a story about how those with cruel intent may take advantage of those who are innocent and naive. Although the book and the movie can be arguably similar if generalized, there are many differences that may change the way a reader/viewer may grasp the concept of the story. Since a movie and book cannot be exactly the same, the film version is bound to have things that differ from the text. One example of how the book develops the development of the story is with the setting.…

If the point of view of the story changed, the mood would change and readers would lose interest.…
