After the civil war, progress had been made within the black community, such as being granted citizenship and voting rights, the black population increased, the black literacy rates increased, and intermarriage was approved (Nadir of Race Relations 1890-1960s). Unfortunately, everything was changed by Ku Klux Klan (KKK) (Nadir of Race Relations 1890-1960s). According to an article entitled “Ku Klux Klan” taken from History.com, white people gathered to have acts of lynching in order to oppose the granting of civil rights to black people (History.com). Moreover, pictures were taken of people being lynched and were made into postcards (Nadir of Race Relations 1890-1960s). This activity angers me because this shows the negative side of freedom. If people have freedom without boundaries, they can do whatever they want. They can cause disorder if they do not have limits. Even though I do not have any relations to the Nadir of Race, my ancestors went through difficult times. This event has had an impact on my life, on our society, and even on modern America. I treat everyone as human beings without looking at the color of the skin. These events will leave a lesson for the future generations to learn. According to New World Encyclopedia, American exceptionalism is a belief that America differs from any other nations (New World Encyclopedia, 2016). However, people accuse America of acting according to its interest without concern for the rest of the world (New World Encyclopedia, 2016). According to the Pew Research Center article entitled “The Problem of American Exceptionalism” by Andrew Kohut and Bruce Stokes, due to the exceptionalism, the relationship between the United States and other countries is being affected (Kohut and Stokes, 2006). I agree with Jeff Daniels from the Newsroom that America is not the greatest country in the world anymore because it is different than before (Daniels, 2014). If this country is so great, then nobody would ever be in prison (Daniels, 2014). America was the greatest country in the world due to the fact that it was the only one that had freedom in the world.
