The Lakers were named after Minnesota because it was the land of ten thousand lakes. They were founded in 1948 in Minnesota and a year later, the NBA was formed. The Lakers are an American basketball team that represents Los Angeles since 1961. This amazingly talented team often wears a combo of purple, white, and gold and play in the Staples Stadium in the heart of L.A. The Lakers have won 16 championships and been to the finals a total 31 times over the last 57 years in Los Angeles. This team holds the record for the most appearances in the finals. The Boston Celtics have been to the finals only 21 times which is a good 10 times short of the Lakers. This dynamic purple and gold team has gone through many players, coaches, and management personal but seem always hold their standings in the playoffs.

Their best coach was Phil Jackson because he lead the Lakers to 5 championships. The most any coach has won was 11 which was set by Phil Jackson. Jackson had a way of setting up a fantastic team roster. This consisted of Shaquille O’neal, Kobe Bryant, Robert Horry, A.C. Green, Rick Fox and Derek Fisher, to name a few. WIth this team, it was the best show in town, called the Lake Show. Everyone wanted to see the purple and gold put on a show that you could never imagine could happen in basketball.
