In the story, “The Lady, or the Tiger,” criminals were judged in the King’s arena. They chose their fate by picking one out of two doors. One door had a tiger in it and the other had a lady and if the criminal picked the door with the lady the criminal would marry the lady. The King would watch as the criminal chose his fate. The King’s daughter was in love with of the servants. When the King found out he put the servant in the King’s arena to be judged for his actions. Since it was her lover, the King’s daughter, the princess, found out what door the tiger and the lady was in. Since the story says, “The semi-barbaric King had a daughter as blooming as his most florid fancies, and a soul as fervent and imperious as his own, “she would not want him to marry another woman. She would be jealous if he were to marry another lady. The story also says, “How in her grievous reveries had she gnashed her teeth, and torn her hair, when she saw his start of rapturous delight as he opened the door of the lady.” This shows that she hated the fact that he, the servant, would marry another woman and would be happy. She knew the lady behind the door, too. This would make her want to kill the servant instead of letting him marry the lady behind the door. …show more content…
The story says, “The girl was lovely, but she had dared to raise her eyes to the loved one of the princess; and with all the intensity of the savage blood transmitted to her through long lines of wholly barbaric ancestors, she hated the woman who blushed and waited behind the silent door.” This means she hated the woman and the half barbaric blood in her would mot ler her give him away to another woman. It means she would most likely choose the door with the tiger in it. She was jealous to think that he would smile as he got married to the lady behind the door.
