Which is Worse?
Different people have different ideas about what punishment is. In the story, “The Lady or the Tiger?” by Frank R. Stockton, the young man’s idea of punishment was way different than the king’s idea of punishment. In “The Lady or the Tiger?” the princess’ lover, the young man, had to choose which door to go through. He loved the princess, and the king thought that was a crime. There were two possible outcomes of the door method: marriage to the fair maiden, or death by tiger. The princess’ lover thought that opening the door to the fair maiden would be worse than opening the door to the tiger.
When given the choice, the prince would rather open the door to the tiger. Stockton says, ”This royal maiden was well satisfied with
