All stories have resolutions, but not all stories have endings. Endings are devices writers use to give a reader closure; some stories do not give this kind of absolute resolution to the reader. Many writers use a form of ending in which the reader must find their own resolution through the information gathered throughout the story. These kinds of endings, when done incorrectly, can leave the reader feeling cheated. but writers such as Frank Stockton, Liam O’Flaherty, or James Hurst, create an atmosphere of mystery and suspense, while still giving the reader the resolution that they crave.…

The Tigers Alive “Some birds are not meant to be caged, that's all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure.” ―…

Short Story Formal Paragraph The Lady or the Tiger The definition of conflict is a disagreement or argument. The story The Lady or the Tiger by Frank R. Stockton, is an interesting story, but understanding the different conflicts helps readers appreciate complexity the story which ensures it is an effective short story. First of all, the conflict of person versus self, when the princess is deciding which door to tell her lover to choose improves the story. “The question was asked in a flash; it must be answered in another” (131). Female Ugliness: In the Southern Writings of Eudora Welty and Flannery O’Connor Eudora Welty and Flannery O’Connor characterize women with ugliness by rebelling against the Southern ideology of beautiful women. In this essay, I will concentrate on those texts which recognize and embody the female ugliness – Welty’s Petrified Man and Lily Daw and the Three Ladies, and O’Connor’s Good Country People and A Good Man is Hard to Find. The ugly female characters demonstrated in these fictions challenge the stiff, gendered expectations of women by their appearance, sexuality, and strength particularly when women are in the public eye.…

Living in a semi-barbaric society the king used a public arena as a mean to refine his people by exposing them to man and animal valor. In one of his fancy exhibitions that resembled a court, someone accused would go to his arena and decide his fate. The king would give the person an option to open one of two doors and depending on the door chosen the accused would either get killed by a tiger or married a chosen woman on the spot, whether the person was innocent or guilty. I went back and forth between the different courses offered by the Teachers Learning Center before choosing Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. I am very happy with my decision as I found the book both interesting and applicable to the subject matter I cover as a Health Education Teacher. Wiseman covered concepts pertaining to Mental and Emotion Health, Communication/ Conflict Management, Family Life and Human Sexuality, and Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs; all of which are part of the Maryland State Health Education Curriculum. Wiseman created chapters chock full of information and advice that I was able to implement and discuss with students, staff members, and parents. I was able to utilize different quotes and chapters from…
