In the short story “The Lady, or the Tiger” author Frank R. Stockton creates make believe kingdom. In this kingdom the ruler was a semi barbaric king. The king had an arena, and when a crime was committed the accused were put into to prison. They would await their day till they were put in the arena. The king let them decide their fate by picking between two doors. Behind one door held a hungry, ferocious tiger waiting for his next victim to open his door. Behind the other door was a fair, pretty maiden awaiting someone to open the door. Any man to open this door was to be wed to the maiden right then and there. There were two doors one decision to be made, Life or Death?
Once upon a time there was a far away kingdom ruled by a semi barbaric king. The king had a young, beautiful daughter who of course was the princess. “The princess was as blooming as his most florid fancies, and had a soul as fervent and impervious as his own”. The princess was having a love affair with this young man. The king was bound to find about the two one day. When that day arrived the king did not hesitate to throw the young boy into prison. There he would wait until time for him to enter the arena. On that day he would not only have to forever say goodbye to the girl he truly loved, but he would either die or marry. The princess never caring before what door held what fate, but this time it was different this was the man she loved. So, she used her power of highness and money find out what door was in front of what. Now, she knew which door held the tiger and which held the lady. She knew he would ask which door he should decide, so now she would have to think what reply she would give
