The reason there was a minimum wage in the first place is to make the economy stable with the growing population. Now you see as the population grew the wages grew too. “At the federal level, the minimum wage was last increased on July 24, 2009…” This was not that long ago and now people are trying to raise it again. Would it make a difference if we just add all the minors? Probably not, because if those teen earn the money by working, they are contributing to the economy when they spend what they earn. By spending money you put that money back into circulation, therefore making the economy better. So if we hold teens from getting the same amount of minimum wage, we are destroying this economy. Not only has minimum wage have the economy, they saved people from death. “Something has to be done about the elimination of child labor and long hours and starvation wages.” (Grossman). President Roosevelt wrote this in response to a young girl’s letter. Many, at the time, have died to sweatshop conditions. If we don’t let teens have the same minimum wage as the adults now, then it can lead to what it was in the 1930s. Do you want this to happen to your child? Of course you don’t. Minimum wage can have multiple effects that can lead to many other, it’s like throwing a pebble into stale water starting little ripples then as it travel on the ripples gets larger and larger. This means that giving adults a higher wage than minors is ineffective. So making them the same as minors is the better choice according to Gillikin. “Certain full-time students, student learners, apprentices and workers with disabilities may be paid less than the minimum wage under special certificates from the Secretary of Labor.” (Youth & Labor). This is less motivation for the minors, knowing that they could be paid below minimum wage. Now, what is the whole point for a minor to work? The main reason a minor decide to work is to gain some spending money. For that very reason making it the same as adults can have a huge impact on today’s economy. There is more problems that minimum wage create for minors and even more for adults, so wouldn’t it be a strategic more to solve the less problems

Minimum wage is a relatively new concept in the labour market. It was created with the idea that minimum wage will be a stepping stone into a better paying job in mind. As the years have gone by, minimum wage jobs have evolved from supporting teenagers and giving them the necessary experience in the work field to supporting families. It’s this change in dynamics that fuels the argument that minimum wage should increase to a living wage. What people fail to realize is that minimum wage exists for a reason and should it be increased; the positive impacts are outweighed by the negative impacts in the economy.…

The minimum wage debate has been a disputed topic in the United States for many years since it was first implemented. In 1938, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a bill allowing for a federal minimum wage to be set (Grossman 1). 70 years later, many minimum wage workers and other government officials want to implement a 15 dollar per hour minimum wage. While the current federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, the negative impact of the economy explains why it should stay that way, if not be reduced or eradicated. In states that have implemented a higher minimum wage, there are already statistics to prove the economic decline.…

Young adults and teens are a major part of the minimum wage workforce. Many of the people on minimum wage are working so they can make money while in high school or to help with college debt. In California, a 15 percent increase in minimum wage would erase 35,000 to 70,000 unskilled jobs which would effect 1.5-3 percent of the young citizens working (Henderson). The drop in jobs would be a result of managers having to fire people because of the increased salary. Raises in salary cuts into the amount of money made by a company; therefore, two options are available for the company to take so that the net gross will remain the same and the company will not go under; these two options are firing or increasing product prices.…

One in three employees currently earning the minimum wage are parents (Abolish 26:00-27:15), the minimum wage rate is the only thing that is keeping them afloat (Abolish 27:20-28:05). The odds are that this will keep perpetuating a cycle of poverty in America and those children are much more likely to keep repeating the cycle that they see. Because of this, we must change the imagery they experience in their lives. Put them in a situation where they are more likely to see their parents pursuing training and education than just asking to make a small amount more per hour or week. That image will remain with them and make them stronger for it.…

“Raising the minimum wage would not help . . . it would have the opposite effect because it would victimize the country’s lowest-skilled workers and make it more difficult for them to find employment” (Reisman, 2015). Raising the federal minimum wage will increase unemployment and at the same time increase the cost products and services. Per Thomas MaCurdy, professor of economics at Stanford University, “higher minimum wages help almost nobody; but raise prices for everyone” (MaCurdy, 2015). If the federal government desires to raise the standard of living in our country, “the best thing the [government] could do is to just get out of the way” (Epstein,…

This notion is in fact faulty (Department). In July of two thousand and fourteen, six hundred of the United States top economist including seven Nobel Prize winners wrote this letter to president Obama, an expert states that, “ In recent years there have been important developments in the academic literature on the effect of increases in the minimum wage on employment, with the weight of evidence now showing that increases in the minimum wage have had little or no negative effect on the employment of minimum-wage workers, even during times of weakness in the labor market. Research suggests that a minimum-wage increase could have a small simulative effect on the economy as low-wage workers spend their additional earnings, raising demand and job growth, and providing some help on the jobs front.” (Over). This message has to be one of the most impactful because it shows that a massive amount of people with credibility came together to aid in the support of raising the minimum wage across our nation.…
