Additionally, they will have to worry about the cost of childcare and set alarm for a less paying job because of their situation. There needs to be policy changes in order for the gender gap to be narrowed, and ultimately closed. The two areas where there needs to be a focus on is an office in the government that deal specifically with the gender wage gap, and implementations of taxes. The company Walmart was hit with a class action lawsuits, in the city of San Francisco in 2001 (Walmart, 2012). This lawsuit consisted of 6 women that work for Walmart, and they felt that they were not receiving fair treatment when it pertain to mobility with Inn …show more content…
If these offices were created, there would be statistical evidence showing if there is indeed discrimination and wage differences within genders. There needs to be implementation of genderization in the academic world. Having studies that include gender and definitively define what discrimination is needs to be mandated in our nation 's academic profile (Beggs, 2015). If this was in place in the academic profile this could deflate some of the ideals some men feel about women in the workforce. This would not only empower women, this would give men a bit better understanding of the actualities of what women feel in the workplace. An office that I created in my proposal, might help with the implementation of this process in schools. Researchers have suggested that the more children interact with different genders at an early age, the more likely this will have a positive outcome for them in adulthood (Institute for Women 's Policy Research, 2012). If more of these interactions would happen at younger ages, as these individuals grew into adulthood, they wouldn 't see females as inferior. By learning about this at a younger age, this would give females a voice and confidence which they could carry into adulthood if they were to go through discrimination of this type. This would eventually evolve and trickle down to decreasing the gender wage gap. Even though taking on the gender wage gap is a feat in itself, a change in policy and societal attitude may help shrink the gender wage gap. If there was a governmental office specifically for handling the gender wage gap and equality there would be more oversight for these issues. Our societal attitude is divided when the topic of conversation is gender wage gap. There are many people within our society that have debates and their own agendas while handling the gender wage gap. With these misinterpretations this to Lutz and stops any individuals from trying to push forward too close and eventually equalize the gender wage gap. From the media and politicians alike, we all know that the gender wage gap is a real and significant problem. The policies that have been placed are definitely not working to the advantage of women.
