The LIDAR: Future Weather Report

Improved Essays
As time progresses, techonology has advanced. The LIDAR is the most impactful, developed and advanced technology that can help seek evidence for researchers and explorers today, which in turn can further our understanding of the archeology of the world. Archeologists have been able to find out more about the topography than they have in years. The LIDAR has made it easy upon scientists and has changed the view of the world.

On the other hand, another developed and advanced type of technology could be the weather sattelite planes. While it may seem like this would not be helpful, it does assist with predicting future weather reports. The LIDAR does not tell researchers of the future, it provides a 3D view of the ground surface and information of the past. For instance, the

In addition, this type of aircraft has had a huge impact on the saving of lives, while the LIDAR does not do anything of the sort. During Hurricane Carla, forecasters predicted that "Hurricane Carla would land less thatn 100 miles west of Galveston...the storm inflicted winds of 120 miles per hour..." (Caldwell, 6). This mere prediction of the data brought by weather satellites saved many citizens of the Gulf Coast.

However, the LIDAR provides information that researchers could not believe or expect. The LIDAR has changed the way archeologists view the ground surface. The LIDAR is the most advanced of the three technologies, providing a 3D view of the ground, in just a little amount of flying. The reason to why this is so impactful is because

Weather is considered to be exponential and when initial factors are off by small amounts it makes a huge impact. I think the predictions made about weather are important because many times we are given warnings but act slowly to them. Then we will complain and be shocked when the worst case scenario happens. I think Silver wants us to wake up and be cautious to the warnings that we receive.…

Meteorologists use conditions of the atmosphere to predict what the weather will do next. They use a variety of tools and equipment to gather information from the atmosphere and then transmit it back to them so they can analyze it and use it. These tools can include weather stations, aircraft, weather balloons, barometer, radar, and more. Only some of these actually enter the atmosphere to collect data, others use data collected from ground level while others even gather information on the atmosphere from ground level.…

The techniques include but are not limited to, looking at historic maps, aerial photography, LiDAR, analytical survey, field walking and geophysics and Geographical Information System (GIS). All of these techniques are useful to an archeologist however, they all have varying degrees of expense, financially, in manpower and…
