Although the bat looks like a simple object, it is extremely complex. It must be made in a way that makes it balanced, but also lets it have power. Bats can be made with metal or wood.

The thick part of the bat, that you would use to hit a ball, is called the barrel. The narrower part of the bat is called the handle. The handle usually has rubber or tape grip, to make it more comfortable for the batter. Below the handle and at the bottom of the bat is the knob. The knob is there to prevent the bat from slipping out of the batter's hands. At the top of the bat, at the beginning the barrels is the part call the top.
