Abner Doubleday invented the game known as baseball in Cooperstown, New York, during the summer of 1839. At least that is the myth that was told doubleday was actually a civil war hero not the inventor of baseball. Baseball was actually a mixture of cricket and a game called rounders, brought here by early New England colonists. It started out as just a game played in school yards and on college campuses, then in the mid-19 century it became popular in industrialized cities were young men sought work.
