The story starts in a town in Persia, where two brothers resided. One was Cassim, who was married to a rich wife, while the other, Ali Baba, was married to a poor wife. To provide provisions for his family, Ali Baba cut wood and sold it. One day, when Ali Baba was in the forest, he saw a band of travelers. Fearing they were thieves, he hid. He heard one of them say ,“Open, Sesame!” After this, a rock slid open, revealing the cave inside. The thieves came out, and shut the rock door with a brusque ,”Shut, Sesame!” Then, the Forty Thieves departed. After making sure the thieves had left, Ali Baba crept up to the rock, and said,”Open, Sesame!” The rock slid open, and Ali Baba walked inside. Instead of finding gruesome objects, he was pleasantly surprised to see valuable objects, such as gold and jewelry.
