As it is primarily set in Kabul, Afghanistan between 1963 - 1981 (although spans multiple countries and multiple decades, it’s center is Afghanistan.) It is a setting which is topical for war, straight away expressing the cruelty of war, and man against man.Throughout this novel, Hosseini directly compares the arrival of war to a loss of innocence.
