Amir promised he wouldn 't send Sohrab back to an orphanage because that’s how Assef got his hands on him, but Amir had to break the promise in order to prove that Sohrab’s parent were dead and that no one claimed him. Sohrab takes the news in a bad way. On the same night he tries to commit suicide by cutting himself with a shaving blade until he bleed out.
