The statement was used at the end of Chapter 25 to show the hope that Sohrab gave Amir and how he was willing to give his everything to make sure Sohrab had a great life. The author used the statement to show how second chances are always available, even in the face of misfortune. The statement “You will never again refer to him as a ‘Hazara boy’ in my presence. He has a name and it is Sohrab”(Chapter 25) was used to display the equal opportunity that Sohrab was going to be given and how he was not going to be discriminated against. In Chapter 21 a symbol that portrayed hope was the pomegranate tree from Amir and Hassan 's childhood. The statement “Looking at the wilted, leafless tree, I doubted it would ever again. I stood under it, remembered all the times we’d climbed it, straddled its branches, our legs swinging…” this shows the desire and memories that the tree pulled from Amir’s childhood that made him want to find Hassan’s son. The tree provided motivation for the rest of the journey, it made Amir remember how much his friend really meant to him. The blue kite from Chapter 7 was symbolic throughout the whole novel because it granted honor. Amir’s dream to win the kite race made him hopeful that his father would actually love him and show him attention like he did Hassan. The novel shows the development of the characters throughout the book in ways unimaginable, especially Amir. Amir, who was once a selfish young boy, eventually grew up into a man who became concerned with the care of others. Amir used the statement “For you a thousand times over” showing his development as a person. The sense of hope was granted by the author because he allowed the characters to receive second chances and make the best of them. The sense of hope made it possible for the characters to make the best possible outcome of the situations they were in, regardless to circumstances placed upon them. The author generated hope by changing settings, giving the effect of a fresh start. The author leaves a great sense of hope at the end of the novel by showing the development of Amir and the other characters as well as showing how second chances are always available to those who take advantage of
