Amir is jealous of Hassan because his Baba likes Hassan better than him, so one day he puts his watch and money that he got for his birthday under Hassans bed. Then he accused Hassan of taking his valuables which successfully got Hassan to leave the house and his life. Shortly Amir saw what had happened to Hassan that day of the Kite flying contest, he went on a trip with Baba and “[he] finally had what he wanted all those years” which was for Baba to love him more, but “[he] felt as empty as the unkempt pool [he] was dangling [his] legs into”(85). He really tries to get passes what he had done and saw but he just couldn’t and he couldn’t stop thinking about Hassan because whether he likes it or not he needs Hassan in his life. Hassan still tried to be friends with Amir even though Amir was pushing him away and wanted nothing to do with him. One day Hassan had a dream that him and Amir were going to go swimming in a lake but everyone said there was a monster lurking in the lake. But they went in anyways and there was no monster after all.
