Document Analysis: Read the excerpt from The Kitchen Debate: An Exploration into Cold War Ideologies and Propaganda and answer the following questions. Your answers should be fully developed paragraphs with specific illustrations or references to the text.
How does the verbal exchange between Nixon and Khrushchev reflect the dynamic and ideological differences of the Cold War? Give specific examples.

For instance, Khrushchev started the discussion by saying how both countries want peace and friendship. However throughout the debate, if one said how their country was better, than the other leader would mention their country’s developments. Khrushchev’s and Nixon’s final comments to each other in this excerpt are about how both countries are strong by means of weapons and spirit. So, it is hard to tell which of the countries would be above the other and had the advantage at a certain time. Nixon also stressed how everyone’s people are strong and used the exhibition as an example to how Soviet and American men “work together well for peace.” This appeals to a part of the ideology of communism where people need one another and need to work as equals. The workplace doors started to open for women, they were able to apply for higher paying jobs that once were available only to men, attend professional schools, and more. In this excerpt, when talking about the California styled kitchen and the new addition of the washing machine, Nixon mentions that Americans “were interested in making life easier for their women.” This was a new way of thinking. Khrushchev then said that they did not have the “capitalist attitude” towards women meaning that apparently meaning that discrimination and exploitation of women wasn’t found in communism, so it wasn’t a problem.
