The most interesting aspect of last lecture was seeing how things from previous books is used in later books. For instances, the splitting of a robe was used twice so far: Jeroboam splitting a robe in to twelve to symbolize the splitting of the Kingdom of David, and Saul tarring Samuel’s robe

The book God 's Big Picture is a 167-page book written by Vaughan Roberts and published by IVP Books. The sub title to this book is “Tracing the story line of the Bible”. I believe Roberts does a fair job at accomplishing this task. The key to tracing the story line of the bible is to look at it outside the box and in big picture view hence the title.…

As a spokesman for God, one of the prophet’s primary duties were to speak God’s message to the people. Isaiah and Daniel both would come into influencing different nations and teaching the people about God. Isaiah would impact Israel, becomes a politician, and would even go to die for his beliefs. Daniel would be captured by the Babylon army, and would later be thrown in a lion’s den for refusing to pray to another god. Isaiah and Daniel would influence nations, see visions, and being willing to die for their beliefs.…

Conversely, Ezekiel’s message is instructing the elite of Judah, now in exile, that the concept of the Jerusalem ideology is still intact. He rationalizes that the Judite leadership is ultimately to blame, but that does not include the future generations of Judites (Ezek. 18:14-19). He is using this concept as a motivator for them to change, stating that there will be a future remnant. He later issued calls for the wicked of Israel to turn back (Ezek. 33:10-11), and explains that even the wicked will be spared (Ezek. 30:14-15) if they restore their pledge to…

When you walk into a church you may realize that there are serval paintings, but what you may have not noticed is their significance. If you look at each painting closely you may notice that they tell a story. The Nativity with the Prophets Isaiah and Ezekiel is a piece of art history which uses iconography and religion to create a narrative. The Nativity is not only a piece of art, but it also is an altarpiece. Since an altar is where offerings for a church are held, the images that appeared on the altarpiece carry the most significance.…

UFO's AND ALIENS: I think the government and NASA are keeping the truth about life outside our planet hidden from society. How can we be so arrogant and think that we here on earth are the only living beings in this gigantic universe with billions of stars galaxies, suns, solar systems and planets. Everyday there are sightings all over the world by citizens, commercial pilots, and military personnel. I think we have been visited and offered help to benefit mankind with technologies that can alleviate us from dependence on fossil fuels and oil dependence.…

“Repetition compulsion” (Potamianou 945) is utilized to alleviate the tensions produced by trauma. However, the process results in two paradoxes that make it difficult for the mind to achieve alleviation from trauma (Potamianou 946). The first paradox is the “presence of what is absent” (Potamianou 947), which develops when traumatic experiences are kept outside David’s memory while his psychic apparatus is exposed to compulsive repetitions of Dulcie (Potamianou 947). She is the unspeakable figure of David’s story because she is a woman who was shamefully violated (Baiada 38). The after-effects of this trauma leave the mind paralyzed, making it deficient in its ability to elaborate on the subject (Potamianou 946).…

Some of the topics we covered in class that follows this theme would be Moses covenant, Abraham covenant, the Babylonian exile, and the exile from the Iberian Peninsula, Genomic period, and the destruction of the first and second temple. In the museum, there were four slates each presenting a different verse from the Hebrew bible. The first slate had Genesis 17:7, the second Exodus 20.2, Deuteronomy 30:16, and Deuteronomy 26:9. The passage of Isaiah 7:1-25 in which Isaiah reassures king Ahaz that the plot against Judah will not stand because God is on his side. For this reason, the Lord gives Ahaz a sign about the baby named Immanuel. I disagree with Carvalho that the woman and her child were just a literary device to mark time in the oracle. I believe that this passage predicts the birth of Jesus Christ. In the next few paragraphs I will explain the reasons why I am making this statement and I am also going to back it up with examples.…

2 Kings 18-25 – The story of 2 Kings continues with the introduction of King Hezekiah of Judah, who is like a breath of fresh air when compared to his predecessors. This is because he does what is right in the eyes of God and tries his best to obey His commandments. YHWH also alters the rhythm of the story a little because He takes a more active role in Judah’s history. When Judah is threatened by foreign invaders, YHWH acts as the defender of His people and does not allow the enemy to advance. Later, Hezekiah falls ill and is informed that he will die very soon, but after much pleading with YHWH, he is granted 15 more years of life.…

The first theme is prophecy, which is utilized extensively in both the book of Samuel and the Ramayana to foreshadow ruin. In the book of Samuel, the catalyst for the Rape of Tamar was King David’s own sexual immorality with Bathsheba and his indirect responsibility for the death of her husband. In the nevi’im, the prophet Nathan rebukes David in the name of God, prophesying “…The sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me [God] and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own. This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you.” These words are the prelude for the destruction of King David’s family line.…

Biblical Story Assignment As Christian story comes to close, it is now time to look back and reflect on all I’ve learned, especially from Bernhard W. Anderson in his book The Unfolding Drama of the Bible. In this book, Anderson explains that the drama occurs in three main acts. Act 1 The Formation of God’s people, Act 2 The Re-formation of God’s people, and Act 3 The transformation of God’s people. For this paper, I have chosen to talk about Act 3 and highlight some key events that take place.…

In the Bible, there is a famous story that is often shared with children from different religious backgrounds, David and Goliath. This story is about a young man (David) who defeats a giant (Goliath) with a slingshot and a rock. The story describes a young man who exhibits strength, courage, and the ability to conquer regardless of your size. In the Late Antiquity there is a painting of Samuel Anointing David possibly created between 245-256 that was found in Dura-Europos, that is narrating the story of how this young man, David, became the chosen one to rule with strength, courage, and as a conqueror. The Samuel Anointing David is an excellent example of Late Antiquity Art.…
