Snapchat, the app that swiftly took over the nation. If one does not have it then surely they have heard of it. Starting up in 2011 Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown launched a truly brilliant social media app but, with cynical intentions. These three college students came together and formed an idea of an app that would allow them and others to carelessly send pictures that disappeared. The MyStory feature is somewhat like news feed on facebook but does not require any interactions such as “liking” or “commenting”. Meaning one can know what all their friends are doing simply by watching all of the stories their friends have posted. Of course …show more content…
But lately it seems like the cons of this app are heavily outweighed by the positive aspects. It surely does not seem like this specific form of social media will be going away anytime soon, it has found its home in the culture of everyday life for more then half of Americans. Without it social media would still feel like it had something

I know I have been attacking social media this whole time, but why would people spend so much time on and worrying about social media, if there weren’t any pros to it? The biggest pro of social media is how in-the-loop it keeps us all with today’s hottest news. Whether it’s our high school friends currently getting accepted to their dream college, or it’s your friends getting engaged, married, or having a baby. Social media not only keeps us updated with our friend’s lives, it also keeps most people updated about what’s going on around the globe. Social media brings everyone together, and I think that’s why everybody is so obsessed with it.…

Ms. Ham and Mr. Standage focus on how trends draw people out of their normal social interactions and into a world that seemingly revolves around themselves (We Shall Overshare, Mary Ham 280). Their focus upon the false sense of attention that people get from sharing about themselves shows how the audience in each article should be able to relate to this kind of situation.
