If a considerable portion of British Columbians feel that the Pipeline will be detrimental to Canada, then the government should take into consideration their opinions and prevent the installation of the pipeline. Although there may be an exuberant crowd of protestors refuting the pipeline, the motives of each protester may be insincere. Recently, an article by Danielle Smith has exposed various American Tar Sand companies of funding the Anti-Kinder Morgan groups with ridiculous sums of money exceeding $8 million. The recent coalition of these various groups derives from a singular plan of preventing the pipeline from being implemented, in order to prevent oil from Alberta reaching an international market. Without the oil being utilised in a more efficient manner, the American oil companies are able to monopolize the international market and retain all revenue streams for themselves.Furthermore, with Canadian oil being landlocked we are forced to sell it to the United States for a discounted rate as result, which is exactly what the American Oil companies want, “They’d like to keep Canadian oil in the ground and, alternatively, they want to keep Canadian oil landlocked. Because we can’t reach overseas markets, our landlocked oil is sold at a huge discount to customers in the U.S.” - Suzanne Anton, the Minister of Justice (British Columbia).
