Foremost, MetLife sets the stage by first showing the widowed father with his daughter and an upbeat tone playing in the background. The daughter then begins reading the paper she wrote about her father listing off all of the amazing qualities that encompass him. The fact that he's smart, funny, handsome, sweet, clever, and kind. She then continues on saying her father wants her to do well in school and wants what is best for her. At first his expression is priceless; he was so in awe over how highly his daughter thinks of him. The commercial then takes a sharp, heart- wrenching turn. The daughter intialitates this when she says “Daddy is just great.. But he lies” (MetLife 1:08). This instantly transforms the mood and the upbeat music changes

The side where he is struggling to make end met and to send her to school. Salinger treats with power the declining influence of power authority on certain members of the young generation. In the eyes of adolescents like Holden, their elders are not necessarily their betters. They tend to see and understand the world around him with their eyes. The tattering of the authority figure finds its expression in the novel largely through an absent or vulnerable father, either physically or spiritually - sometimes both. In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden’s father is often an absentee.…

Marya Mannes once said, “Euthanasia… is simply to be able to die with dignity at a moment when life is devoid of it.” Euthanasia, which can be defined as induced death free of pain and anxiety has often been used in medical procedures to allow patients to die a peaceful death. There are various forms of euthanasia that have been used, one being non-voluntary euthanasia in which someone connected to the patient makes the final decision due to their lack of ability to answer for themselves. This highly debatable topic was portrayed in John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men, where George shoots his disabled friend, Lennie, towards the end of the book using this method. Because of his close relationship with Lennie, George was justified in shooting…

Although, novels tell stories that are not true, they can teach valuable lessons in life. In the novel, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, there is insight into how the characters struggle to find their way while holding on to their personal dreams. Similiarly, in the article, “A Duty to Family, Heritage, and Country” by Ying Ying Yu, the author informs the reader of how Chinese students are held to very high standards, and there is only one dream, and that is to be successful in the eyes of their family and country. Steinbeck 's Of Mice and Men and the article by Ying Ying Yu both demonstrate how one measures success by his or her own actions and consequences.…

After that it moves to President Johnson’s voice, high over the image, saying, “These are the stakes—to make a world in which all of God’s children can live, or go into the dark. The ending of The Help had a few downfalls that I did not necessarily like. First, I disliked the fact that Elizabeth fired Abileen based off of what Hilly told her. Elizabeth was told Abileen store silver, when it was Hilly’s maid who did it. I do not think it is fair that she got fired and Elizabeth did not even know the entire story. Secondly, I did not like that Hilly gets Minny’s husband, Leroy, fired and be told that it is Minny’s fault.…

When I first began to read Cannery Row, I was not too fond of it. There are quite of number of reasons for why I didn’t like it, but the most prominent reason would be because Steinbeck had a tendency to treat death in a nonchalant way. But as I read on, I discovered his true motive. He didn’t write passively about death for the sake of being rude. He had a reason.…

This commercial is also, in a way, made in a skit format, leaving room for a lot of improvs to be done. This is smart logically because now the audience can take a different look at the commercial and have more of what real reactions look like and how this mother would really tackle an everyday mishap. Therefore, the commercial is even more effective because we are getting real reactions from people who are viewing this commercial. Also, because of it being left to improv and showing the real reactions, we get real emotions and that leads into how pathos is shown and used throughout the…
