Happiness In You Short Story

Improved Essays
Here is a dramatic story I’ll probably remember as long as I live. The story goes like this: When I was a young boy, dad told me that the key to life was happiness. When I went to school, my Life Skills teacher asked us in class what we wanted to be when we grew up. I remember, I said ''Happy.'' The teacher told me, I was wrong and didn't understand the question. My classmates laughed at me. And I told them they didn't understand life. Theoretically, happiness is what we’re about, right? In fact, it is not measurable, profitable, nor tradable. Yet, above all else in the world, it is what everyone wants to acquire through countless stimuli. They want to have happiness, and want to know they have a lot of it. So what does bring happiness? All …show more content…
As you might expect, a very rich person may be unhappy and a poor person may be happy. If that sentence makes you less happy, then consider this: The opposite is also true. Bad external events make you unhappy but that, too, is just a dip. Then you return to your usual self. So now it's your turn to begin finding the happiness in you. Happiness does not come from a better job. It comes from knowing what you truly value, and behaving in a way that is consistent with those beliefs. Though money is also needed, living happy is the first priority and the happier you are, the longer you live and the more money you make.
A few years ago, I went through a rough patch. I was depressed, and there was no logical reason for it, I had a great relationship, great people to associate with and a meaningful life. I had it all, except happiness. I really had enough and still was depressed. Let me ask you a logical question. Since happiness is when our lives fulfill our needs, ‘‘What are our essential needs to be happy?’’ Dr. Shefali Tsabary, psychologist and author, said: "Only when we fill our own need and feel satiated from within can we truly be fulfilled and

In the story, "Creating your own Happiness" written by, Wayne Coyne, is about a man realizing that happiness isn't about being loved in a situation or feeling lucky but to put yourself first and look at the positive perspective in life. In the story, Wayne mentions he was sitting in a heated car at a stop light and saw a couple huddling outside that seemed like they were freezing but when he saw their faces, they were laughing and smiling. This made him think back to the time when the restaurant he worked at got robbed and the only thing he was thinking about was saving himself. Being in that situation and seeing that couple made him think differently about happiness and how it is a mindset. No matter what the situation is whether its feeling…

These sources of happiness are: security; good outlook; control over our lives; good relationships; and meaningful activities. Without security, we would be too scared to go out and experience the things that help bring happiness or too scared to acquire another of our basic needs. A good outlook because we can’t be sad and mopey like Eeyore all the time. Happiness comes to those who have a happy outlook. I think that control over our lives is one of the major things on the list.…

Happiness is a word that is seen in a multitude of different ways by a multitude of different people. Everyone has their own idea of what happiness means to them, but it is a word that has no set definition. The author of “Happiness and Its Discontents”, Daniel Haybron views happiness as an entire emotional spectrum that is affected by several factors such as life satisfaction and being exposed to both pain and pleasure. Whereas Ed Diener and Robert Biswas-Diener the authors of “Can Money Buy Happiness”, describe happiness as the emotion someone feels when they obtain an object they believe will improve their life and can be acquired within their means. An example of this would be the joy someone might feel when they are able to buy a car…

“For there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so,” (Shakespeare 250-260). This is how David Gilbert opens his essay “Paradise Glossed", in which he discusses what happiness is and how a person can find happiness in the darkest of situations. To Gilbert, happiness is a positive way of looking at a life. He also argues that people can feel happiness in the midst of a crisis because the human brain is capable of unconsciously warping a situation in a way that benefits it, meaning that people tend to see the brighter side of any situation they are put in. Gilbert’s assertion that human can subconsciously manipulate the facts about any situation to find happiness.…

Scientifically, happiness is satisfaction, positive feelings, and a lack negative feelings (Porter 459). Most of us can agree with this statement and acknowledge that they feel the most happiness in these conditions, but what exactly is happiness? “For if happiness is what people strive for, one needn’t waste time trying to figure out what makes people happy. One must only look at what people do” (Porter 460). We choose to work and make money to benefit our happiness.…

“There’s More to Life Than Being Happy” is a journal article that was written by Emily Esfahani Smith. It was published on January 9, 2013. Its purpose is simply to explain to the audience that, ‘It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness’ (Smith 2013). I very much enjoyed this journal article because after reading it I felt that I had actually connected to it. For example, a big topic that she focused on while writing this article, was that being happy dealt with “taking”, while living a meaningful life, dealt with “giving” (Smith 2013).…

The relationship between money and happiness is complex and largely misunderstood. One of the factors that complicate the relationship is the lack of a universal definition of the term happiness. Research shows that nobody truly knows what happiness is. Additionally, over the years, psychologists failed to establish why certain conditions could make one person happy while leaving another person discontent. Happiness is difficult to understand and explain because it is an emotional factor that is considered to be influenced by multifarious factors.…

Also, it is misleading to mix between happiness as a wonderful feeling and the causes of happiness. For example, when I was in my senior year of high school, I applied to a scholarship to study in the US, but the acceptance rate was very low for international students. In fact, it was that station of my life, where I exerted all my mental and physical effort in order to gain this golden opportunity to study what I love. Despite the fact that it was truly hard to get this scholarship, I was one of those five students who got the scholarship. I was in my room in my high school dorm when I received the scholarship acceptance notification.…

Money and material possessions does not lead to happiness because some people that are rich and have many nice things like cars and others could still be depressed. Also because someone could have money, but could also have a mental illness. For example, if a famous person is going through some metal problems and is not happy, but they still have money which is not making things better. Money could not buy friends for you to be happy and also family. This means that if you have real friends and family you wouldn't have to use your money to make them be your friend or family.…

It is often said that money can buy happiness and that people cannot be happy without being successful. Today’s social media forces the world into believing that they have to be or look a certain way to be happy. Often times, people who experience negative emotions are given medication in order to keep people from feeling emotions such as sadness, anger, and fear. However, experiencing these emotions does not always mean that someone is depressed and needs to be treated. Some sad and gloomy emotions can be beneficial to stay on track with their healthy lifestyle.…

Money Doesn’t Always Buy Happiness Today in our day and age, there has been one topic that comes up that has been a controversy for people all over the world: money. Scientist have studied that, “Money does buys happiness, but it buys less than most people think,” (Dunn, Gilbert, Wilson, 2011, pg. 115). Some people believe that the more money that they have, the happier they will be. Others believe that money is the epitome of unhappiness because it can cause a barrier between them and those around them. Depending on how he or she use the money, happiness is determined on how the person decides to spend it.…
