A Discussion of how the Governments have a Specific Impact on the Company and its Industry Government regulation in the automotive industry can directly affect the safety features that are required to be in a car, the component’s design, the overall aesthetic, and how the vehicle performs. As suggested by Investopedia, “these regulations have a significant effect on the automotive business by generally increasing production costs while also placing limitations on how cars are sold and marketed” (2015). Government intervention, however, is not always what is best for a company’s success, as is the case with Tesla Motors. As Hinkle argues, “federal and state programs have conferred huge advantages to help the electric-vehicle company sell its cars – which state laws then make almost impossible to sell” (2013). Some issues with government intervention have involved quotas, test-drive restrictions, and the inability for Tesla Motors to sell their product directly to customers. Quotas are impossible to meet because electric cars are not yet high demand amongst consumers, and not allowing cars to be test-driven prohibits potential sales. As Hinkle points out, “forty-eight states forbid Tesla to sell cars directly to consumers, which is how the company likes to do business” (2015). Tesla’s Company Website is successful at drawing in potential hires, as it’s career page is aesthetically pleasing and it’s marketing message is current, interesting, and appealing.
