Five Key Behaviors

In today’s world, it is important for educators to consider what strategies and ideas are necessary to implement in the classroom in order to effectively benefit student learning. Out of the five key behaviors and five helping behaviors, I have chosen to reflect upon instructional variety, teacher task orientation, using student ideas and contributions, questioning, and teacher affect. For each of these, I will explain the ways I have seen an educator be either effective or ineffective in their teaching. While I was a senior in high school, I was a part of a Pre-calculus class that was taught by a teacher who was very monotone and lacked instructional variety. No matter what lesson we were going over, he always found ways to interest us. Whether that was having us make our own cut-out fish to hang around the room during our ecosystem lesson, or coming up with a saying for when we did our science homework (“If I see the moon, I have science homework”). He was a great example for all of his students, especially since we were in our first year of middle school. It was helpful and encouraging to see someone who was always that excited for class, no matter how dull the lesson content truly was. He was and always will be one of my favorite teachers. Throughout my education experience, I have had many amazing teachers that have shown me the correct way to enhance the learning experience for my future students. I have also had teachers that have helped me realize the way I should not be running my classroom. Regardless of the outcome of their teaching, they have all helped me to further understand what needs to happen in order to aid the students. All of the key behaviors and helping behaviors are concepts that I need to find ways to incorporate into my future classroom and teaching
