The Karate Kid is a drama produced by Columbia Pictures in 1984. The movie begins with Daniel Larusso and his mother moving from New Jersey to Southern California. His new home is nothing like the palm tree paradise he was promised, but things quickly turn around when he gathers a group of friends and even meets a gorgeous blonde. Yet it all gets crushed when Daniel catches the interest of a group of bullies that are skilled at karate, and are led by a character named Johnny. Daniel is continuously beat up and is the target of Johnny and his posse’s torture for the following weeks. In order to get revenge, Daniel attempts to learn karate and ends up being challenged to a karate tournament against Johnny. Taking pity on Daniel, an old custodian …show more content…
After two months of training, the tournament arrives and despite almost fracturing his leg, Daniel comes out victorious and earns the respect of his bullies. In the movie The Karate Kid, Daniel Larusso illustrates a teenager who stands up for what he believes in, while Johnny Lawrence demonstrates a merciless bully who resorts to fighting. In the film, Daniel Larusso is someone who fights for his principles and does not back down in the face of danger. An example of this is found in Daniel’s first night in California, when he is at a beach party flirting with his new crush Ali. The night is in full swing when suddenly Johnny shows up and is infuriated that his ex-girlfriend is even looking at Daniel. Johnny starts pushing Ali around, so Daniel steps in to protect her. It is obvious here that Daniel believes that a boy should never manhandle a girl and since he is so quick to stand up to Johnny it …show more content…
At the beginning of the movie, Johnny is quick to unveil his anger. During the beach party he spots his ex-girlfriend with a new kid and is quick to let his jealousy get the best of him. He storms down to the beach and begins pushing Ali around harshly and threatening her, and when Daniel tries to restrain him he swiftly turns and punches him. When this happened Johnny had no idea who Daniel was at this point but his first reaction is to throw a punch. This shows that Johnny’s anger overpowers him and makes him harm people out of rage. A different example in which Johnny shows off his personality is during the schools Halloween party. After Daniel pours water on him, he runs out and chases Daniel down until he corners him and delivers several harsh strikes. Daniel is unconscious by this point and one of Johnny’s friends screams “he has had enough,” but Johnny just responds with “I will decide when he has had enough!” In a similar example Johnny and his posse follow Daniel on his way home and push him down a steep hill while he is on his bike, which leaves Daniel with a large bruise on his eye. It is obvious in these examples that Johnny has no control over himself as for he would go as far as putting someone's life in danger to get revenge. In another example, during the tournament, Johnny’s sensei instructs one of his friends to strike Daniel’s leg so Johnny

Many interesting points and ideas are discussed in Flannery O’Connor’s essay “The Element of Suspense in ‘A Good Man is Hard to Find’”. These ideas are not only concurrent with O’Connor’s short story “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, but they can also be broadened and applied to all aspects of literature. O’Connor’s primary theory; one that I believe is prevalent not only in writing, but in everyday life, states that violence is the only thing capable of bringing a person back to reality, it is the only thing that can strip away somebodies personality, and leave behind only their basic and primal instincts; it leaves behind their true essence. O’Connor goes on to explain that “the man in the violent situation reveals those qualities least dispensable…

Sometimes, people are quick, too quick to think about their actions and just do things for nothing. This injures people mentally and physically, with hurtful words or dangerous actions. But even if you are supposed to be hurting someone else, without thinking about the odds, it will come back to you in what people call karma. But in the story “The Fight” by Adam Bagdasarian, Will, the main character, notices how such small simple thing can take your world on a rollercoaster on what once used to be a peaceful merry-go-round. While David Fincher’s work spans many genres and touches on many themes, his darkest films prove to be the most interesting. Central to all of these films is religion, whether it be actual organized religion or a symbolic form of religion. Yet, Fincher does not deal with religion in a very typical way. Instead, he chooses to deal with religion through various treatments and depictions of violence, using many techniques, such as shots, camera angles, and cuts, to highlight the violence in the films and draw attention to its cause and effect relationship with religion. In Se7en (1995) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Fincher investigates religion as the cause of violence, while in Fight Club (1999) he investigates religion forming…
