When people think of influential personalities on social media, one immediate reaction might be to think of big personalities like Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, or Donald Trump. While these celebrities are influential and famous in their own way, there is another type of account that appeals to many – the one-manned operated fictional character account. On Twitter, Cloyd Rivers (@CloydRivers) fits this description rather accurately. With his beliefs on the conservative side, Cloyd Rivers prides himself in being a stereotypical southern Republican redneck hillbilly who loves America and God more than anything. He even will send some tweets ending with the word “Merica.” On September 6, 2016, the twitter page tweeted, “Respect is taught at home. If your kid is a disrespectful little bastard, it’s your fault. Not society’s or a video game’s fault. Yours.” Intentionally or by accident, Rivers made a compelling and noteworthy argument for the importance of accountability and proper raising of children by embracing his target audience, the three rhetorical tool, understanding context.
