Distribution of poverty by race One of the major components that contribute to poverty’s diverse nature is the different races and ethnicities that constitute it. For the chart above, I received my data from the Kaiser Family Foundation website. The Kaiser Family Foundation bases their estimates from the Current Population Survey conducted by the U.S Census Bureau in March of 2016. Throughout its history, the United States has been a very diverse nation made up of nearly every race and ethnicity in the world. As a result, I felt it imperative to use the racial makeup of the United States in order to capture the diversity of poverty. Even though it is commonly believed that minorities constitute the majority of the poor in the United States, the data shows that there are more whites living in poverty that each minority individually. Even though whites have a smaller percentage of people living in poverty, it is imperative to remember that since whites makeup the majority in the United States, this helps decrease their poverty percentage even when they have a greater quantity of individuals in poverty. The data in the chart helps demonstrate that even though many believe that poverty only plagues minorities, poverty has proven to be an issue that affects all people of every race and
