The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program is a program implemented in public high schools by the federal government to help military readiness after world war 1. It was created by the national defense act of 1916, under the provisions of this act, high schools were required privileged loaned federal military equipment and the assignment of active duty military personnel as instructors. This program technically influenced young citizen to enroll into the United States military. It still stands as that today, it used to be forced but is now widely encouraged.. Students under this program seem to have three greater aspects of most high school students. These three aspects are academic achievement, wellness, and leadership skills. JROTC

These tests compared the behavior of 277 JROTC students vs 200 non JROTC students. Tests were not only done comparing the success and character traits of high school students in and out of JROTC, but it also compared JROTC students to that of beginning college student administration students. JROTC is a program based on leadership skills, and because of this they were compared to beginning leaders of a college environment to see how well they compared to them. The test used was the LAE test which is an acronym for Leadership Ability Evaluation test. This assessment tested four basic leadership patterns that were very carefully planned and researched. The study’s main purpose was to see how JROTC cadets matched with college students. JROTC cadets are overall superior or equally matched compared to the college students. When you are in JROTC you are a part of the military, but that does not make JROTC a recruiting program. Aside from being a credit in high school, there are several other benefits that can be given from joining the program. First, for people that enlist in the military after taking JROTC for at least three years, the military will take them up two pay grades and ranks. Second, many colleges give advance standing and credit for completion of the JROTC program if the person enroll in college ROTC. Third, the JROTC instructors have been very successful in helping high school students, who are interested, obtain ROTC scholarships and service academy appointments. Scholarships obtained from the ROTC program can be up to $60,000.00. In JROTC, being a leader means first being a follower. The curriculum teaches all aspects of being a good follower and being a good leader. Cadets must learn the 14 traits of a good leader. The program encourages practical application in other school activities as well as in JROTC. Although all these benefits and regulations seem like a big push towards recruiting high school students into the military, JROTC is not a recruiting
