In The Jungle Books, written by Rudyard Kipling, the Bandar-log, or the Monkey People, are trying to gain attention from the Jungle People by harming or insulting them. Bullies today torment their fellow peers to either be the bigger character or for fun. Because of their actions, the Bandar-log are similar to modern day bullies and bullies are similar to the Bandar-log. The Bandar-log throw objects at the Jungle People just to get noticed. “But whenever they found a sick wolf, or a wounded tiger, or bear, the monkeys would torment him, and would throw throw sticks and nuts at any beast for fun and in hope of being noticed.” (Kipling,32) This source, or evidence,was written by the author. A bully would call one of their targets ‘ugly’ or ‘stupid’. “ ‘They have no leader,’ said Bagheera. ‘They lie. They have always lied.’ ” (Kipling,31) Bagheera, the black panther, said this statement to Mowgli. What Bagheera is saying is true since the Monkey People lied about having a leader. “ ‘They have no speech of their own, but use the stolen words which they overhear when they listen, and peep, and wait up above in the branches.’ ” (Kipling, 31) The old bear,Baloo, explained this to Mowgli. The Monkey Folk overhear when peeping above in the trees and use them. Bullies would usually curse,or saying inappropriate language. Bullies would call their peers, or students, names using this language. In some cases, the bullies’ target would also use this language at them. These tormentors would hear and use this language when their parents use them. There is also cyber-bullying, although technology didn’t exist back then in the 1800’s nor did it appear in the story. Bullies would use the Internet to abuse kids with hurtful words. Tormentors over the Internet would be the cause of a person’s lack of confidence in themselves. These abusers would call the person awful things that that person judges himself/herself. These average bullies don’t hurt you while you’re in school or in public; these abusers can also hurt you while at
