Continuing my journey, I met a chaski runner who was on his way to deliver a message to Machu Picchu. Machi Picchu was an Inca settlement located in the high Andes of Peru. I was informed that the Machi Picchu was created as a royal estate for the emperor and other elites of the Incas aristocracy. Life in Machi Picchu gave the people a new meaning for architecture. The settlement was surrounded by steep cliffs and because it was hidden away in the forest, strangers would not even know it existed. It also had only one entrance so the likely hood of an attack is highly unlikely. It was a sanctuary where many rituals and sacrifices are offered.
