Light Turners Hero's Journey

The word “hero” has changed throughout the years and does no longer consist of a character with super powers nor having to perform the ideal rescue scene. In some books or films, the hero may not always be considered a hero to everyone. Some characters sometimes have to take matters into their own hands in order to bring justice like in the new film Death Note. Many films follow the same stages of the “hero’s journey” that are explained in the book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell. In this film, Light Turner would be considered as the hero to most of the audience because he is bringing justice to those who deserve it even if it is with death. In Joseph Campbell’s book, one of the stages in the hero’s journey is known as the “call to adventure” (49). According to Campbell, this is when “destiny has summoned the hero and transferred his spiritual center of gravity from within the pale of his society to a zone unknown” (58). In Death Note, Light Turner is chosen to receive the power of the book that has fallen from the sky directly in front of him that can control anyone’s fate after being attacked …show more content…
Campbell calls this step, “Woman as Temptress”. ChangingMinds defines this step as someone or something that “…offers the hero short-term relief or gratification but giving in to this urge would cause the mission to fail and prove the hero unworthy.” In the film, Death Note, Light Turner becomes good friends with a girl named Mia Sutton. Light introduces the book to Mia and she instantly becomes interested in him. They begin dating and eventually become a team that is known as “Kira”. Mia begins to get carried away and wants to kill everyone who she believes does not like what they are doing including Light’s own father. She was attempting to manipulate Light into doing what she wanted by telling her that she loved

I have never thought of a hero being just a regular person with a talent and a kind heart until I heard of Tyler Joseph from the band Twenty One Pilots. Whenever you have to make a choice, he says there will always be the easy route. That is the route that can give you what you want right away. But in the end, that’s the wrong choice. Most of the time, the right decision requires work.…

Campbell begins his explanation of the hero’s journey by revealing the first step of his monomyth, The Call to Adventure. The call can not be seen as physical nor as musical, instead it can be viewed as every person's tether to the universe and when the universe pulls that tether, it demands the attention of those it calls. The universe should not be seen as tyrannical however, for it calls a person to adventure not to be cruel but to bestow the knowledge that a rite of passage must soon be taken. In the end though, each individual person must choose whether they accept the call to adventure or refuse it as seen when Adam & Eve in “Paradise Lost” are given the call when God forbids them from eating from the Tree of Knowledge. Representing Innocence…

King Arthur and Spiderman are two fictitious characters that are both similar, and dissimilar to each other. In an excerpt from Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces, he writes about monomyth, which is a twelve step process that is divided into four sections. This represents a continuous cycle that the character in the story must go through in order to complete their journey. King Arthur and Spiderman follow the cycle of the Heroes Journey by events in their lives made parallel to the cycle of the Heroes Journey. King Arthur and Spiderman, although from two different ends of the spectrum, are actually alike, both coming from epic tales of struggles and triumph.…

A hero is someone who is willing to leave the safe position they are in, in order to help someone in danger. The Yad Vashem defined a hero as righteous, “[...] according to this people who not only helped the Jews, but were willing to leave their relatively safe positions as bystanders,” (Preamble; by Irena Steinfeldt). A hero was willing to share the fate of those whom they had saved. During the Holocaust, many Germans were given the opportunity to be heroes, but few took the risk. Three of these heroes were Jerzy Bielecki, Gino Bartali, and Irena Sendler.…

Hero vs Hero There are many people in the world that can be portrayed as a hero, but what really is a hero. The dictionary states that a hero is “a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.” In the book The Odyssey, Odysseus was portrayed as the hero who saved everyone from the trojan war. Another hero who saves people and cares about others and not just himself is Iron man from the movie Iron Man(2008,2010,2013). Both of these heroes put their life on the line to help others, and they both have to face personal challenges that changes both of their lives tremendously.…

A strong sense of justice is no longer a requirement to be a hero. What people now view as “justice” is no longer “in sync” with one another. So therefore, a hero, one who brings “justice,” no longer has to be tied down to such a strict definition. The current world no longer has a clear image of what is right and wrong, so can no longer have a clear image of what a hero is. In a world constantly growing more self-absorbed, a “hero” really depends on how one sees it.…

Everybody has a different outlook on a modern hero. Some people think of them as brave romancers, who would do anything for the damsel in distress. Others prefer a brother at arms, rushing into distress for those they love. No matter who it is though, these people expect equality from their “hero.” Nobody imagines a slave owner, or an Ellis Island employee as their hero.…

Today had been long. It was one of those days that Cassie wanted to end with a bear hug from her dad. Her dad was always the person to brighten her day. “A hero is one who steps up when everybody else backs down.” When someone is brave enough to step up or help at tough times it makes them a better person and shows that they can truly be a hero. Heroism means being brave and taking actions in times of crisis; heroes aren’t afraid to do what is right even though nobody else may agree. Heroes are brave and courageous no matter what challenge they face. An example of someone who is a hero could be Frederick Douglass, who was an African-American social reformer.…

Some people do not know that they are even someone’s hero. When a person has the power to stand strong and fight for what they believe in they too can be a hero. These are the type of people that give others hope and save lives each and every day. You do not have to have super powers to save someone, you do not have to be in a position or a career where the main goal is to save someone’s life such as a doctor, a policeman or a firefighter. Heroes can be everyday people, such as a teacher; who teaches kids the everyday essentials of life to grow and be a better person, a parent; who guides and raise their children and protect their children, and even a janitor or trash man; people that help keep the environment clean for our safety and…
