A Christmas Carol is the story of an old man’s fantastic adventure one Christmas Eve. Ebenezer Scrooge’s adventure is a journey of discovery – learning that a heart filled with goodwill and charity, instead of bitterness and greed are more valuable and prosperous to the soul than material riches. Before his adventure, Ebenezer Scrooge complained to his nephew the morning of Christmas Eve, “If I could work my will, every idiot who goes about with ‘Merry Christmas’ on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart. He should!” At the end of his adventure, by the dawn of Christmas Day, he awoke a changed man and a champion for the Christmas spirit, not just on Christmas Day, but all year.

He tells Scrooge that he was sent to warn him that how you live in life, good or bad, greedy or generous, will determine your afterlife – whether or not he will be bound in chains because of his greed, or free because of his charity. He tells him he will be visited by 3 spirits who will show him his life and what is to come if he continues to be a mean and hard man. Later when Mr. Scrooge goes to bed, each of the spirits visits him. The first 2, the Ghost of Christmas Past and Ghost of Christmas Present, show him how he has missed opportunities to enjoy life and be kind. They show him how others, even though they were poor, were happy and content with the joy of family and living. They showed him by being greedy and his love of money, he couldn’t see the needy around him and that he neglected the poor children of society the spirit called ‘Ignorance and Want’. The third spirit, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, showed him that his way in life was a way to death and being unmissed and
