The Journey of Earth to Echo Everyone says ‘curiosity kills the cat’, but they forget that the feeling of satisfaction can bring it back. Four best friends from Henry Gayden’s Earth to Echo (2014) knows this first hand when they did a journey of their own which would change their lives forever. Joseph Campbell’s Monomyth, or the hero’s journey is very noticeable in Echo. There are four sections of this cycle the four best friends experience; the call to adventure, supreme ordeal, transformation, and hero’s return. The call to adventure is when the story starts separating three parts of the ordinary world, calls the hero to adventure, and the refuse call. Alex and Tuck were disappointed and Munch did not mind so he decides to keep it because he loved to mess with technology and computers. On their way home Munch freaked out that something was moving in his backpack, come to find out it was the device he wanted to keep. Alex and Tuck were excited about the situation but not Munch, he was getting scared. When they realized the device could communicate with them Munch was freaking even more. Now this is where refuse the call takes place for only Munch when the hero decides to continue the journey or quit, but because of his friends being there with him he did not run away. This makes the closing of part one the Call to Adventure. Part two of the hero’s cycle is the Supreme Ordeal or Initiation. This is where the three heroes meet a mentor or helper and they all together cross the threshold when there is no turning back from their journey. They also will face sum tests, meet an ally, and beat their enemies in this adventure. The man was asking so much questions, but then Emma came to the rescue. When they left Emma talked to Echo and learned that the device was as actually a key to its’ spaceship. She also learned that the men from the construction site were actually the ones to shot Echo down, so this is where the enemies came to play. Now part two of the hero’s cycle is completed.
Transformation is part three of the hero’s cycle is where they reach the approach. The approach is where the heroes and the ally have a very difficult challenge to face, like the boss level of a video game. During this approach the characters go through an ordeal which coexist with life and death situations. Of course with obstacles there is some kind of reward the hero receives for his or her effort. Though the hero gains this reward there is also the danger of losing it. These are the thing the kids and Echo had to
