Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa in 1451. He was a Roman Catholic and wanted to spread Christianity on his travels. He had two children Diego & Fernando. He was a maritime explorer who undertook 4 voyages across the Atlantic Ocean. He need someone to support his voyage, first he went to the king of Portugal, however he refused, as he was more interested in finding a route to Asia via Africa. He then went to Spain and after a long wait, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella agreed to fund his voyage. They wanted to beat Portugal in the race to the East, and to spread Christianity. They gave him 3 ships, The Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. On the 3rd August 1492, Columbus set sail from Palos, with 90 men in total. He travelled
