In one particular scene, Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s butler, talked to Wayne about the motive behind the chaos of the Joker, “some men aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.” This is an important quote because it reflects the development of the Joker. As Harvey Dent, he was considered the ‘White Knight’ of Gotham, because he protected the city during the day being the District Attorney. While Harvey Dent, he is considered lovable and enjoyable, as his passion is making sure his ‘good guy’ reputation stays in-tact for the city of Gotham. His character truly develops in the warehouse scene, as Dent and his lover, Rachel, are tied up to chairs in separate warehouses full of oil, with only a phone that is connected with one another and a timer of when the warehouse was going to explode. But, in previous scenes prior, Dent foreshadowed these events by saying, “you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” The Joker coordinated where Dent and Rachel were going to be, but switched the location on purpose to trick Batman and Gordon after interrogation. When Batman was intending to save Rachel, he ended up saving Dent as Gordon was too late to save Rachel before the detonation. The real character development of Dent happens in this scene, because he lives to see his words come to life. As Batman saves him, half of Dent’s face is burnt-off, thus creating the Two-Face character. In order to save the "dying" city of Gotham from the criminal underworld, poverty, and corruption within the police department, Bruce returns to the root of all his misery as a changed man; the identity of Batman was established to prevent anyone else from experiencing the pain and suffering he had endured as a child while the normal Bruce Wayne returns to his "throne" at Wayne Enterprises in order to gain the funding needed for new technology such as the bat-mobile and upgrading the suit as well as using his influence to support individuals such as Harvey Dent who had gained the title of the "White Knight" due to being able to achieve justice during the day without a mask. Despite his vigilantly approach towards establishing law and order, Batman is able to maintain his sanity by acknowledging a specific honor code that prevents him from using deadly force or resorting to killing criminals such as the Joker despite his ruthless and unpredictable nature to harm others for his own enjoyment. What makes Batman an ideal hero is his heart and courage because he refuses to be thanked or acknowledged for his role in justice. This quote relates well to Batman in the way that as a normal man, he has a side of insanity and immorality. Of course Batman has a positive side of him that only wants to do good for Gotham, but the other side shows someone who wants to hurt people and even enjoys doing the punishment. So why do we love the Batman stories? We love them for the same reason we love horror stories. The violence, blood, mystery, darkness, all of the deep, twisted traits presented in the comic or movie give people the opportunity to relieve their morbid thoughts and wicked fantasies, which many…

The majority of the scene is presented through over the shoulder and close-up shots, therefore the audience will concentrate on Joker and Batman’s facial expressions. Although Batman was noticeably mad he remained calm, because he needed to know where Joker hid Harvey Dent and Rachel; in comparison, Joker was relaxed and excited, because he knew he was psychologically controlling the entire situation. In fact, he was playing around Batman’s mind by forcing him to break his own rule in order to save either Harvey or Rachel. Last minute of the scene became violent as Batman lost his patience, the camera follows Batman as he dragged Joker across the table and pushed him against the wall, the camera is shaking in order to illustrate Batman’s anger and frustration, as well as making us feel like we are part of the interrogation. Borrowing from psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus’ statement about Psychology, it can be said that “the Joker has a long past but a short history”. The lack of childhood history makes it difficult to fully understand and acknowledge the genesis of the character’s many faults and traits. Relevant Scene I decided to choose a combination of scenes from the movie to show the progression of the character and to fully make my point across. The first scene, was when Alfred started to tell Bruce about his time in Burma. He spoke about a thief who was stealing jewels and how they were looking for him, when one day, he [Alfred] saw a kid playing with a jewel, and learned that the thief was just throwing away the jewels he stole. Bruce asks why would the thief steal them in the first place, and Alfred explains that the thief, like the Joker is a man who he does not understand fully either, and tells him how some men are not looking for anything logical, that they cannot "be bought, bullied, or negotiated with, as they just want…

When we think of Batman, the words “hope”, “justice”, and “incorruptibility” come to mind. He is The Dark Knight, a bat vigilante who fights to keep the fictional streets of Gotham safe. He is arguably one of the greatest superheroes ever created. He fights crime and faces some of the most insane villains in comic book history. What makes him stand out from the rest is that, as Wikipedia states, “unlike most superheroes, Batman does not possess any superpowers; rather, he relies on his genius intellect, physical prowess, martial arts abilities, detective skills, science and technology, vast wealth, intimidation, and indomitable will.”…
