The Dark Knight was released in 2008 as the sequel to Batman Begins, as well as the second movie in The Dark Knight Trilogy. The inspiration to the film was when director Christopher Nolan researched the original introductions of popular villains from the comic book, including the Joker and Two-Face.
Summary of the film
As the sequel to Batman Begins, Batman, Harvey Dent (the newly elected District Attorney), and Lieutenant James Gordon continue their fight in protecting the streets of Gotham City from any criminals. The villain of the film, the Joker, is determined to cause havoc for Batman and the city of Gotham. Even though he is a villain in a superhero movie, the Joker throughout the film increasing gains power through creating fear of the good characters. But, the Joker is not out for the fame in fortune. In one particular scene, Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s butler, talked to Wayne about the motive behind the chaos of the Joker, “some men aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.” This is an important quote because it reflects the development of the Joker. In the opening scene of the movie, the Joker robs a bank for money, giving the impression he is out for money. But, later in the film, a scene is shown were the Joker lights his share of money in a deal on fire, proving that his motives developed from gaining wealth to enjoying people …show more content…
As Harvey Dent, he was considered the ‘White Knight’ of Gotham, because he protected the city during the day being the District Attorney. While Harvey Dent, he is considered lovable and enjoyable, as his passion is making sure his ‘good guy’ reputation stays in-tact for the city of Gotham. His character truly develops in the warehouse scene, as Dent and his lover, Rachel, are tied up to chairs in separate warehouses full of oil, with only a phone that is connected with one another and a timer of when the warehouse was going to explode. But, in previous scenes prior, Dent foreshadowed these events by saying, “you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” The Joker coordinated where Dent and Rachel were going to be, but switched the location on purpose to trick Batman and Gordon after interrogation. When Batman was intending to save Rachel, he ended up saving Dent as Gordon was too late to save Rachel before the detonation. The real character development of Dent happens in this scene, because he lives to see his words come to life. As Batman saves him, half of Dent’s face is burnt-off, thus creating the Two-Face character. For the rest of the film, Harvey Dent, the good guy of Gotham, was gone and developed into Two-Face, who was determined on getting his revenge for losing Rachel through
