Basic ID is an acronym that stands for “behavior, effect, sensation, imagery, cognition, interpersonal relations, drugs / diet” (Gladding, pg. 249). It is in fact a very strategic way of looking at people’s problems. It uses exercise and therapy to help people overcome their problems and work in a group setting. While this incorporation of exercise may seem unconventional it makes perfect sense when you consider Lazarus’ basic ID approach. His approach looked at all of the things contributing to a person’s behavior. Studies have shown that exercise improves all area of a person life.
