During the time the Jewish people were going to the land of Canaan they came into conflict with many other groups. What followed was a bunch of wars. However, the jewish people did not only kill these people but the women and children of those villages. It was not justified. G-d commanded the jewish people to do these things but why? Was it even necessary? I do not think so and find it quite pointless. While I understand killing other armies, the deaths of women and children is unjustified and horrible. Which brings me to the reasoning. G-d supposedly was getting them ready for being on their own in Israel. I think war is a good way to do that and they do need their own supplies.
