“Always keep your guard up. People aren’t always who they seem to be” (Anonymous)
We have choices in our lives. We make mistakes. And we experience the mismatch between the feeling reactions and reality in our life. We often get “bent out of shape” with others because we attribute a reason for their action or inaction that is not accurate. However, that attribution has to do with the potential events that may happen in the future of one’s life. Since deceit and perception arise as fragments of life, not all things we see is always true. Guy de Maupassant discussed this statement by using setting, narrator and symbolism through his story “The Jewelry”.
Firstly, the story took place in Paris. The timeline which the story took place is late 19th

From the narrator’s point of view, the characters are not judged and give a nice dose of perspective that allows readers to evaluate what 's going on with as little bias as possible. Since the narrator identified the characters at the beginning of the story it is likely that the narrator is reliable on the viewpoint. The narrator in the story actually predicts the change in the Mr. Lantin’s life is going to occur. The discovery of his wife secrets and lies injected as “A horrible suspicion swept across his mind” (659) to his personality and reality. Even though the tone of the narrator does not change, the situation of the story climaxed. Surprisingly, the narrator managed to retain a character who is keeping secrets until death. Depending on the situation, the narrator allows readers to read without having a quick decision and remind us not to hold assumption as truth such as “No one could find a nicer girl than that” (656). The impression of the narrator is neutral influence and this statement is also true for the reality as people can be influence by the environment, inspirations and people around them, but at the end they are the one who should decide what are they going to do in their

Instead of sticking to the historical record, the film applied a nineteenth century conception of Romance to Bertrande’s relationship with the imposter she believed was her husband. This also acted as contrary to the legal vulnerability that Bertrande faced as a woman in the sixteenth century. Her focus had to be a peaceable marriage, taking maximum precautions to avoid accusations of adultery on one hand and a threat to her life and the life of her child on the other. Vigne may have thought that to represent the shifting weight of the charisma and initiative towards the fake Martin and the actual historical context would make the plot too complex. Consequently, the film positioned a sixteenth-century account where Bertrande supported her husband until it was too late, rather than adopting her historical strategy of self-protection from…

It is human nature to warp reality in stories and myths to gain popularity and appeal. Although Nick Caraway insists at the beginning of The Great Gatsby that both he and Gatsby are trustworthy and admirable men, his implications later in the book indicate that he may have left out Gatsby’s negative traits to boost his own popularity. Through portraying himself as the extraordinary Gatsby’s lone companion and leaving out anything that removed Gatsby’s prestige, Nick attempted to convince readers that Nick was admirable. Autobiographers have the tendency to attempt to gain the support of readers before beginning the actual story. The narrator is immediately identified as “the good guy” in what should be a simple recollection of their life.…

Two of Edgar Allan Poe’s stories, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado, are told through first-person perspective. Some critics dislike first person point-of-view because it only shows the story through one perspective. The reader is confined in the narrator’s mind, unclear if what other characters think about. Also the story can change depending on what the narrator shows. If the narrator’s mind is altered, then the story is too.…
