The Jackalope: A Short Story

One sunny day three girls were walking a dog in a neighborhood. As they were walking the came across house that was rumored that a child kidnapper who lowered kids in with candy lived there. They started to dare each other to go up to the house, but each one chickened out. The house was quite scary, for it had a broken window and fence. The girls started to walk quickly for they didn’t want to stay by the ugly house that belonged to a criminal for too long. But while they were walking away from the house a jackalope appeared out of nowhere running through the criminal’s broken fence. The dog that they were walking ended up getting loose from their hands, and started chasing the jackalope through the fence. The girls gasped in shock. One of them was going to have to chase after the dog who was chasing after the Jackalope into the yard. They played a quick game of rock, paper, and scissors to determine who would chase after the dog who was chasing after the jackalope into the yard. Would it be the younger, the middle, or oldest child who would chase after the dog who was chasing after the Jackalope into the yard? The sun gleamed down at them like it was smiling along with her. As soon as the girl and dog rejoined them they looked at the house for a few moments longer. Maybe the guy left the house for the day is what they were thinking, but in those few moments they saw red glowing eyes at the peak of the broken window. They all gasped in horror. They didn’t take any more time to be there as they ran off as fast as cheetah’s back to where they had come from, and they survived to tell the tale. After, it was all over even the running they each promised they would never ever go to by the house again.
